This disease as the name suggests is characterized by presence of multiple small cysts in the ovary. It is also known as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) because of the associated problems.
It can affect women in their reproductive age group (18 to 45 years) whether married or unmarried.
The disease is characterized by weight gain or difficulty in loosing weight, irregular periods, facial hair, thinning of hairline and difficulty in conceiving. However, some women do not present with any symptoms at all. An ultra sound is generally helpful in diagnosis of the disease.
There is no proven cause for this but genetics and lifestyle play an important role.
Unfortunately this disease is in form of a vicious circle. On one side the presence of PCOD does not lets you loose weight and on the other side symptoms of PCOD are better if you loose weight ie your cycles are better regulated and facial hair are less.
Mostly lifestyle changes, healthy diet and weight loss are recommended.
Fortunately, with advancement of science, Homeopathy has helped a large number of patients to get rid of this vicious disease without any need of surgery or hormonal treatment which can have long term side effects.
